Slopes and Speed - Skiing at Riekstukalns
On Friday, the 14th of February, we celebrated Valentine's Day by falling in love with the skiing!
There's something magical about that first, crisp breath of winter at a ski resort. The fresh snow crunching beneath your feet, staggering on your ski boots and rushing to just get your gear on and start riding the slopes at unimaginable speeds. This is what we experienced this Friday at Riekstukalns, thanks to the planning and organization of Ralfs and Eriks, members of the ISST Student Council.
A physical activity retreat and Winter Sports Day were the two most popular desires of our classmates, and the Student Council pulled through on both of them with the same event - a class ski trip to Riekstukalns.
By handling all the coordination, timings, transport, school support and finances, the ISST SC took care of all the boring parts and presented an enjoyable, stress-free event to the class.
Our class had some experienced skiers and snowboarders, some complete beginners and some who were just there for the vibes, and we made place for everyone. The pros zipped down red slopes, and the novices were helped by their classmates (especially our friendly neighborhood ski instructor - Ralfs Skavronskis) on green slopes while the others took pleasure in simply watching from the warm wood-and-glass cafeteria beside the slopes.
But of course, this trip wasn't just about skiing, it was about making memories. Memories that we will remember even long after this snow has melted.
Ski you later, Riekstukalns!
