Students Bring Ideas to Life at TheLAB: Bridging Education, Science, and Business
In March, our students from RTU International School of Science and Technology had an exciting opportunity to visit TheLAB at Riga Technical University (RTU)—an open, collaborative workshop located right on the RTU campus. This innovative hub unites education, science, and business under one roof, giving our students not only access to cutting-edge equipment but also the chance to connect with industry experts. Through hands-on experience, lively discussions, and the freedom to experiment, TheLAB perfectly embodies our commitment to fostering curious, creative, and entrepreneurial learners.
Because our school is based on the RTU campus, our students benefit from many of the university’s resources. During the visit, we met Mr Linards Reinis Rozītis, who explained how our students can make the most of TheLAB. He emphasised that although the workshop provides a broad range of equipment to realise almost any idea, its true value lies in being a space where education, science, and business converge. Here, you might encounter a world-renowned scientist stopping by for coffee, receive advice on how to refine your ideas, or learn ways to commercialise an innovation and connect with potential partners. This ethos aligns perfectly with our school’s vision: to create an environment where education, science, and business intersect, offering students a wealth of opportunities to explore the world around them.
Many of our students have already begun using TheLAB’s facilities to develop prototypes for their projects. These will be showcased at an exhibition on 8 May at 13:30, organised as part of the Digital Media & Design and Computer Science courses led by our teacher, Dr Artūrs Kempelis. The event is a collaborative effort with our sister school, Izglītības un zinātnes vidusskola (IZV).
Hands-on activities like this are crucial because they build creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Working with advanced equipment and seeing their ideas take physical shape gives students practical experience that prepares them for future careers in science, technology, and beyond.
Several partners from different organisations will attend the exhibition to evaluate the students’ work and explore the potential for lasting collaboration. If you are interested in becoming an industrial partner, please reach out to us to discuss how we can work together.
